Johnny's hair was similar to yesterday - loose and curly. It looks to me that he isn't self-tanning, btw - perhaps someone told him about our poll on that issue. He got a nice ovation when he was introduced (considering being a non-Canadian skater). A couple of people called out to him "we love you Johnny" when he took his opening position and others called out towards the start of the program (he smiled big both times). The program was mesmerizing. My friend who had never seen it live before said that she couldn't take her eyes off him. Well, we all know that already..... My husband commented that he was one of the few skaters in the entire program who skated to their music.
The finale was very cute. First they came out with their partners, wearing yellow rain suits and the girls holding umbrellas. Johnny and Alisa were first in the line, so we got a great view of him! Music was "Raindrops Keep Falling on my Head." (Has anyone mentioned that it's been raining pretty constantly here since Thursday/Friday?) Then the "director" - Gary's wife calls a stop and says, "no this isn't working for me, let's try that other number we rehearsed. Let's get the wardrobe crew out here." and two TINY children on skates push out a coat rack onto the ice, everyone hangs up their raincoats and put on sunglasses (you have to know Gary Beacom to get this - perhaps someone else can explain the joke) and follow him around doing moves on the ice like he did years ago in his sunglasses program. Another stop is called, the sunglasses go away, and then everyone is following Gary doing some of his other crazy moves. Johnny seemed to be really getting into it, smiling big and goofing around. Finally, each skater was re-introduced and came out and did an ending move. Johnny came out and just groovedwith his upper body to the music, clearly just having a great time. After that the skaters threw out little stuffed penguins into the audience, and my husband caught one that Patrice Lauzon threw. It was probably the best finale of a competition gala that I've ever seen, considering how little time they have to put something like this together.
